Telling the story
The 'rediscovery' story is now an important part of how Topsham Museum displays its Vivien Leigh materials.
A large chest of drawers in an upstairs room of the museum contains a variety of artefacts connected to Vivien Leigh, including accessories, photographs of Vivien Leigh and Leigh Holman, postcards, a signed theatre programme for The School for Scandal, and a mock-up of the ‘rediscovered’ nightdres in a plastic carrier bag.
The museum visitor can imagine Dorothy Holman folding the piece away, enclosing the scent of the Hollywood star in the drawer intermingled with all the other treasures of museum space.
The 3D model below allows you to look closely at the contents of the drawer. Click and hold to rotate the model and zoom in to examine different artefacts.
