Photographing difficult fabrics

The research team brainstorm how to capture tricky fabrics like broadtail, which appear almost reflective when photographed. The dresses were mounted on mannequins and then placed on a rotating platform against a plain background and lit from the sides. They were then rotated very gradually and photographed at each angle from one fixed point, allowing the images to later be compiled into a 3D model.
