This dress was reportedly worn by Vivien Leigh to the premiere of the film adaptation of Richard III in 1955. The adaptation was was directed, produced by and starred her then-husband Laurence Olivier.
Vivien Leigh had appeared in the play on stage with Laurence Olivier in the previous decade as part of the Old Vic tour, but did not appear in the film herself.
The premiere took place on 13 December 1955 at the Leicester Square Theatre. Its US premiere took place on both television and in cinemas in March the following year. The dress is now held by Topsham Museum.
