The photograph shows a dress on display at Fashion Museum Bath. The same cabinet also displays a jacket belonging to Vivien Leigh. Elizabeth Taylor's dress is from the late 1950s and was created for her by the British fashion designer Norman Hartnell from man-made fabric. It was reportedly worn to the theatre in 1958.
Elizabeth Taylor replaced Leigh earlier in the decade in the filmĀ Elephant Walk, shot in 1953. Vivien Leigh had to leave the production due to difficulties with her mental health. Many of her costumes were then adjusted for Elizabeth Taylor to wear.
