Cover of British fan magazine Picturegoer from 9 April 1938.
The cover features a colour image of Vivien Leigh in side profile, dressed in furs, with her name in the bottom right-hand corner. A banner on the left-hand side reads: 'FREE inside 16 page supplement of Marie WALEWSKA with GRETA GARBO & CHARLES BOYER.'
The magazine was published a year before Vivien Leigh appeared in her most iconic role as Scarlett O'Hara in Gone with the Wind. In 1938, Vivien Leigh appeared on stage in Serena Blandish at the Gate Theatre and starred alongside Charles Laughton in Sidewalks of London (alternatively titled St. Martin's Lane). Her star image was on the rise, but the role that was to cement her stardom on a global scale was just around the corner.
