Photographing the Gone with the Wind nightdress

Project PI Lisa Stead and Digital Humanities Lab team member Graham Fereday photograph the Gone with the Wind nightdress at Topsham Museum.

The dress needed to be removed from its display cabinet and placed against a plain backdrop so that it could be lit from all three sides.

The mounted dress sits on a rotating wooden platform allowing it to be gradually rotated and photographed from a fixed point to capture a clear image of all angles of the artefact.

The delicacy of the fabric made this a tricky process; each rotation risked shaking the folds of cloth into slightly new positions.
