Paper materials at Ark

During our visit to the Ark, RAMM Assistant Curator Shelley Tobin retrieved a range of paper documents from the archive which added a deeper context to the Vivien Leigh dresses.

We explored materials such as the letters of donation for the two dresses by Vivien Leigh's daughter Suzanne Farrington; paper records of the accession of the dresses; photographic material; and a variety of historical fashion magazines. These offered a great deal of information about the popularity of fur dresses and accessories in the 1950s, the period during which Vivien Leigh's broadtail dress was constructed for her.
